Urie Bronfenbrenner is perhaps best known for their observation that the research of their day largely represented "the study of the strange behavior of children in strange situations for the briefest possible periods of time," (Bronfenbrenner, 1974). This motivated him to further a new paradigm of research to better account for environmental influences on development. With the advent of Web 2.0, a second shift in ecological theory was warranted.
Back in 2019, I began formulating the initial draft of what became the Personal Social Media Ecosystem Framework (PSMEF). From these beginnings, my thoughts and the framework has evolved, and I plan to use this blog as a space to share and synthesize my thinking. I also plan to update the blog to help highlight interesting contributions and applications of the PSMEF, among other relevant discussions around contemporary social media effects research.
